About Fifty Ten farms

We are a small family owned and operated farm in Arcadia, Florida. We strive to produce the cleanest and healthiest food we are able to. Our practices stem for the desire to care for the land, people, and animals as God intended. While we are far from achieving our ideal farming standards, we use every day as an opportunity to improve upon our work here at the farm.

We are working diligently to establish a farm store and open the farm for visitation, but until that time we are attending local farmers markets and growing our online presence.

our practices

There are a lot of buzzwords floating around these days. We make an effort to use such terms sparingly, but sometimes it’s difficult to clearly explain a product without certain terminology.

Our practices stem from two major beliefs:

1. God commands a proper stewardship of food and animals, thus we are help responsible for how it it raised.

2. We want our family (and customers) to have access to the cleanest and most natural food we are able to produce.

Holding firmly to these two principals, it prevents us from implementing “standard” industrial/commercial agriculture practices. We certainly are not animal worshippers by any means, but we do believe animals have rights. With that said, we are charged with the responsibility to raise each animal with respect and honor.

After all, “It’s not our stuff. It’s God’s stuff.” —Joel Salatin

Below is a list of terms you may see here at the farm, and what they mean to us.

Pasture-raised

Pasture-Raised, for us, signifies that our animals have access to adequate and clean pasture daily. Cattle have free access to grass-pastures 24/7. Our laying hens free-range from dusk ’til dawn, and are locked safely away from predators at night. Broilers are raised on both chicken tractors and a free-range environment depending on weather. “Chicken Tractors” are portable shelters or coops that house the broilers and allow access to fresh grass while minimizing predation.

Organically-fed

We do not currently participate in any government or privately operated certifications. We do not claim our products are “Organic”. We simply let our customers know when we utilize a feed or ingredient from a company this is certified Organic. Not all feeds we use are certified organic, but we work diligently with other farmers and mills to source high quality, local grains.

Non-GMO

GMO’s are Genetically Modified Organisms. Very common in commercial application for herbicide/pesticide resistance, as well as control of food production (patents).

Steroid-Free

Steroids are not administered to our livestock.

No added hormones

No added hormones simply means: nothing other than whatever hormones occur naturally in the animal/plant. We never administer hormones to our livestock.

antibiotic/injection-free*

As devastating as modern medicine has been in many regards, it is not lost on us that such advances in technology and medication have brought significant improvements to quality and longevity of life. With that said, It is not our standard practice to use any medication or antibiotics in our livestock. However, occasionally a sick or injured animal will receive isolated treatment—We believe in ethical farming practices and if a medication will procure the life of an animal or reduce suffering, we will act accordingly. These instances are very rare and a proper withdraw period is always put in place. We value transparency and do not wish to mislead anyone is any way.

Any chicks (broilers or layers) we order from hatcheries do not receive Marek’s or Coccidiosis vaccines. Nor are they fed a medicated diet. Our cattle do not receive any vaccinations either.
